History
The story of how Origin came to be is one of vision, faith, and God’s provision. It all started in the late 1990s when a young youth pastor, Mike, in Indianapolis, IN began to notice a shift in the church landscape. He saw that the younger generations were not embracing the faith of the past and some were uninterested at best and ambivalent at worst. He knew that something had to change.
One day, a staff member serving with Mike approached him with an idea: to plant a new church. Mike was initially skeptical, but he agreed to pray about it. He told the intern that the only way he would be interested is if the church focused on the next generations, knowing God had placed that passion on his heart. After much prayer and discussions, the intern agreed, and they started putting a team together to launch a church plant.
They became affiliated with an organization that provided seed money to help them get started. Throughout the process, they continued to seek God’s will, and felt led to plant in Louisville, KY, and in 2005, they moved there. The church was launched in 2006.
What next?
In 2013, after the church had been established, the constitution had been approved, and elders were coming on as leaders, Mike felt led to resign and start his own business. He believed God was providing another way, and through this business he could eventually fund and help support a non-profit to assist church planters. Mike called this business Millennia Cleaning Company to keep their focus on the goal of what they were doing.
Now Origin
By 2018, MCC was putting 10% of all new business revenue into an account for a non-profit. By 2021, MCC had a significant amount of money going in monthly where Mike felt like the time had finally come where he could begin to organize the non-profit. They found legal assistance for that, formed a board, a Grant committee, and away they went- Origin Church Planting was created.
Mike believed that the church had lost its original mandate to reach the community. So he named it Origin to help the organization focus on helping the church get back to its original intent.
The story of Origin is a testament to the power of vision, faith, and most importantly, God’s provision . It is a story of how one person’s passion and calling can lead to the creation of something truly special. It is a reminder that sometimes, in order to make a difference in the world, we have to be willing to take risks, to step outside of our comfort zones, and to pursue our dreams with all of the passion and dedication we can muster, and ultimately to have faith in the One who gave us these passions.
